Dracaena trifasciata
TIPS & KEY CARE POINTS

Use a coarse, fast-draining substrate with strong root aeration. Water thoroughly, then allow substantial dry-back before watering again. Bright indirect light supports compact growth and stronger patterning, although the species tolerates lower light. Avoid continuous saturation around the rhizome and crown. Glass pots with drainage are the most forgiving system; wick systems should be managed with a conservative reservoir and clear dry cycles.

IDENTIFICATION NOTE
Green non-yellow-margined forms of D. trifasciata have historically been sold as “Sansevieria zeylanica.” True Dracaena zeylanica is a separate accepted species, so the trade name Zeylanica should not by itself be treated as proof of species identity.

Dracaena plants thrive in moderate humidity and slightly moist soil. However, it’s important to let the soil dry out completely before watering to avoid overwatering. This plant can go several weeks without water.

In terms of lighting, Dracaena plants prefer bright, indirect light but can also tolerate low lighting conditions.

When it comes to potting, repot the plant in pots that are no larger than 1 inch in diameter from the root system.

For the soil, use a chunky soil mix specifically designed for orchids or epiphytes, such as any branded potting soil mix for these types of plants.
