Dracaena trifasciata ‘Laurentii’ is one of the most recognizable snake plant selections, combining upright, sword-like leaves with grey-green cross-banding and broad yellow margins. The variegated edge creates a strong vertical outline that reads clearly even from a distance.

The plant spreads by rhizomes and gradually forms a dense architectural clump. It is forgiving of missed waterings and a range of indoor light levels, but brighter indirect light supports stronger variegation and more compact growth. For Flora Cantina systems, the priority is maintaining high root aeration and avoiding continuous saturation.

Care Guide
Dracaena trifasciata 'Laurentii'

LIGHT

The yellow-edged variegation benefits from brighter indirect light than an all-green snake plant. Low light is tolerated, but growth slows and contrast can become less pronounced.

WATER / ROOT ZONE

Use a pronounced wet-to-dry cycle. Variegation can slow growth, so do not match watering frequency to a faster all-green form.

SYSTEM

Keep the rhizome and crown dry between irrigations and use a coarse, oxygen-rich substrate.

Genus Guide

Dracaena plants thrive in moderate humidity and slightly moist soil. However, it’s important to let the soil dry out completely before watering to avoid overwatering. This plant can go several weeks without water.

In terms of lighting, Dracaena plants prefer bright, indirect light but can also tolerate low lighting conditions.

When it comes to potting, repot the plant in pots that are no larger than 1 inch in diameter from the root system.

For the soil, use a chunky soil mix specifically designed for orchids or epiphytes, such as any branded potting soil mix for these types of plants.
